New Workshop Series Announced: Revolutions!

Alas, the Community Organizing Workshop series is almost over! Don’t fear, your friends here at City Repair have you covered. Our next series, Revolutions, starts this Sunday at noon! The series encompasses both inner and outer transformations: turn knowledge into action, look into the future of transportation and energy use, grow mushrooms, prepare salves and tinctures, and more! Here’s the schedule:

Here’s the schedule:
April 12: “Putting it all Together: Synergizing Knowledge into Action”
led by Angel True, Authentic Intention Life Coach www.AuthenticIntention.com
Part I: 12-2 PM
Part II: 3-5 PM
Description: Knowledge is power, but knowledge without direction can be power wasted. You have a broad array of skills, a wealth of knowledge and a passion that pushes you to create change in the world. As a community organizer your job is to create synergy around your wealth of knowledge and move yourself and others into action. In this workshop you’ll identify your core strengths, core interests and core motivations and begin the synergy that will take you further than you thought possible. As the synergy builds you’ll begin to design a direction for your community contribution that starts with taking action now!

April 19: “The Physics of Innocence”
led by John Hoyle, the Inner Politics of Peace
Part I: 12-2 PM
Part II: 3-5 PM
Description: An experiential workshop in reconciling the two souls of human beings. The Inner Politics of Peace is a community dedicated to the ushering in of a new era of humanity through conscious evolution, for we believe that we are now at a point where it’s possible for us to move out of our historical paradigm of conflicted dualism into an unprecedented period of harmonic dualism.

April 26:
12-2 PM: “Grow Mushrooms at Home!”
led by Jordan Weiss
Learn how to foster fungal growth in the comfort of your own home, an interesting aspect of permaculture that can be enacted on a practical scale.
3-5 PM: “Exploring Leadership, Power, and Consensus”
led by Teryani R.
Energetic, fun class, which uses games to explore our relationships to power and decision-making. The intention is to learn and have fun while creating practical techniques and tools for transforming our world to a truly shared-power culture.

May 3:
12-2 PM: “Regenerative Gardening”
led by D. Doe, City Repair
A synergistic workshop using both traditional and permacultural methods, which encourage healing through soil remediation and wise-use planting.
3-5 PM: “Double Digging and Biointensive Gardening”
led by Michael Cook, City Repair
This hands on workshop will empower us with the skills and knowledge to transform an empty soil canvas into a highly productive, space, resource, and effort-efficient, sustainable, vegetable minifarm. We’ll learn the art of double digging, the powerful and easy bed preparation technique that aerates the soil in a non-destructive way and allows for more root space. With increased vertical root space we’ll learn a more effective method of spacing and companion planting that will make use of the close proximity. Bring some working clothes and maybe workgloves. The work will be light, but the dirt will be abundant.

May 10: led by Mike O’Brien, Portland Office of Sustainable Developmentg
12-2 PM: “Retrofitting: Work with the Space you Have”
Work with what you’ve got and learn new, more creative ways to turn your home into a sustainable one!
3-5 PM: “Living on 2,000 kW a Year”
Could you live on 2,000 kW a year? What would that look like? Prepare for the future and learn real, practical ways to reduce your energy use.

May 17: led by Jan Lundberg, Sail Transport Network
12-2 PM: “The Sail Transport Network and Other Tools for Sustainability”
Put on your oil-industry analyst hat and discuss petro-collapse, peak oil, and the end of capitalism. This workshop includes nuts and bolts regarding alternative transport: boats, bikes, horses, canoes, land use, and a look into future scenarios that may or may not have any cars or trains.
3-5 PM: “Music and Other Tactics for a Conscious Revolution”
For late-afternoon enjoyment and mind expansion, the second workshop-period will feature the sharing of songs (acoustic, nature and protest songs), with other forms of art to share and discuss, along with lifestyle/awareness/
community ideas that can help people come together and stick together in times of change. Music, as you know, is right-brain and promotes free thinking, allowing discussion to happen between those who are frustrated and stuck behind roadblocks. Radical change has to happen both within us and in the society we must build.

May 24: led by Matthew Bibeau
12-2 PM: “Permaculture Design for Learning Gardens in Portland Public Schools”
3-5 PM: “Permaculture Design for Learning Gardens in Higher Education”
Description: Explore how to design gardens and garden education programs that promote academic engagement, healthy food habits, sustainability and a sense of community from elementary school to college. In each session, we will take a look at local examples, share local resources and consider how organizations like Tryon Life Community Farm and City Repair can play supporting roles in the development and success of a Learning Garden.

May 31: led by Urban Edibles
12-2 PM: “Foraging, Plant Identification, and more!”
3-5 PM: “Medicine-Making: Prepare salves, tinctures, and oils”
Description: A plant walk with Urban Edibles, a cooperative network of food foragers. Use the plants you gather to make medicines, salves, tinctures, and more!
